My Thoughts on Being Special

I was pondering all the little things that make me special. Not unique, just special.

So I think I shall share a few of these with you in case you have something 'special' about you and you are worried you're out there all alone.

Mac and cheese
Mac and cheese

Special with Food...!

The first special thing about me that comes to mind is with food.

My food should not touch each other on my plate. Now this isn't an issue if it's a casserole.. but when it's individual items, they should not be allowed to mingle. I really try not to make a big deal out of it. This is especially true if one of the items is Lima beans. I never allow Lima beans to touch anything else on my plate. Lima bean juice should be carefully controlled, too. This can be difficult to do and especially awkward when dining out or at a friend's home. They don't know about your 'specialness' and may prepare something out of your comfort zone.

Be polite as you prop your spoon under the opposite side of the plate causing the Lima Bean juice to stay with the beans. Ask for a slice of bread to soak up any remaining juice and leave it on the plate.Next would be macaroni and cheese.

This is one of those items that is so great all by itself nothing is even worthy to share a plate with my macaroni and cheese. Except maybe ham. Ham would be ok.

Special on Cars...!

The next thing that makes me special is the way I shop for things like cars. See my hub on "life lessons". What I am facing now is that since my wardrobe is going more yellows and browns that is leaving a car color choice dilemma.. The only one automobile that will go with this color scheme is a light yellow Vista Cruiser with faux wood paneling. Ewwwww. So that leaves white, or maybe maroon. I can live with white since it shows dirt less.

The only way I shop for a car is to get all the car catalogs and cut out the driver's side window, then place a favorite snap-shot of me behind this cut-out... "how do I look behind the wheel?" Kinda like "how would I look to a policeman?" Choosing the right picture will help here... something between mug-shot and Cosmo layout will probably appropriate for this. Especially if the policeman is a policewoman... we know how they look in a uniform and we don't want to aggravate the situation by being all, you know, glamorous and sparkly! Keeping it simple is always good advice. I like pictures where I'm smiling and if I have one where my hair is blowing back a bit, this gives the illusion of driving down the Pacific Coast Highway with the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. Is this the car for that or would I be better with the red sports car? I shall buy different color clothes for that car, then.

Special is as Special Does...!

I have a problem that if someone shares something extra funny, I have been known to almost stop breathing I get to laughing so hard. It usually happened at dinner. My folks used to just sit there, roll their eyes and say "well there she goes again" and wait for me to inhale. If this should happen to you, just cover your face with your hands and enjoy the endorphins. You'll be right as rain in no time at all. Be careful you do not have a mouth full of fluid, or it will cover the person opposite you... (so sorry Uncle Cecil, you didn't deserve the milk-spray-bath so many times!) He was such a good sport. Handy since he was usually the one with the jokes. In my family we are "wash and wear."

I will leave you with these "special things" and I will ponder some more... no, not obsess.. that is a different column for a different day.

Be Special... Be Proud (I'm proud of you!)

Loved these! Next time I see a lima bean, macaroni and cheese, a red sports car or a knitted cap, I'll think of you, Candie, and just how very special you truly are. LOL

Wow, Peggy, this is the first hub I did and you're the only one to comment! I forgot all about it!! If you see the Lima Bean... push it off to the side for me!! I adore you!

Hi Candie

I was just thinking about you and realised that I haven't read your work lately. I am surprised that you knit teapot covers...(That is very special). You are also completely correct about how forward some foods are when you're not watching. Beetroot is the worst especially if near mashed potato. Love your humo(u)r Candie.. please write some more with that very special way of being special. Thanks for being you. Take care.

Wow, PD, you've hit the 'archives' on this one! Beets.. sigh.. yes they are notorious offenders in the food kingdom. I don't trust them. Maybe there are 'veggie cults' where veggies go to learn how to spread their 'specialness' to other more popular food groups. I haven't written much lately and my score has dropped.. sigh..

Thank you for your comments.. (I'm blushing!!)

A breakfast must be fun, bacon top left, grilled tomato on the side, fried eggs in the center, grilled mushrooms on the other side of the bacon. A pile of 2" wide strips of toast between each to guard against the yolk blending. LOL

nummmmm Rodney, please come make breakfast for us!! I'd be soooo spoiled! (just not stewed tomatoes..)

Candie I am totally with you in the food 'special'

My pet one is the eggs. Never let the egg yoke run into the other food. No way.

I don't mind mixing juices though they can conjure up all sorts of marvelous tastes.

I'm intrigued! Ag! You have a wild side.. mixing juices you say? Hmmmmm!! I also don't let my egg yokes mingle with any other items. I would love to have breakfast with you sometime! Call me!!

HI CANDIE!!!! Sorry for the yelling--I was just so glad to see you on here--where ya been????

So you don't mix food either?lol Our son Larkin, and son-in-law Dan are the same way--so of course, we love to tease them, hahaha...

So I guess you don't like to slop a big spoonful of noodles on top of your mashed potatoes then? Oh, you just don't know what you're missing! :)

Great to see you--come back, we miss you!

ag, your new-and-improved gourmet sandwiches are the best thing EVER!! We shall endeavor to expand your recipe box! I would not put noodles on mashed potatoes either. I love my mashed potatoes!! I love my noodles!! Just not in the same, um, pile. Now, cheese on either is totally acceptable!

Candie here is one for you to try .

How about Vegemite and Cheese. Hmmmm

Candie V profile image

Candie V Hub Author 2 years ago

I have been curious about Vegemite.. is it really food? Sounds horrid, but then not as bad as haggis. Is it slimy? It would have to have lots of cheese and Tabasco for me to try it... and a lot of water.. and a napkin. I'm not sure about anything with 'mite' in the name.

FP! What in the world is going on? I throw in a few pictures and the world beats down my door! LOLOL!! Lima beans.. or, rather, my aversion to lima beans.. has a common thread in many of these! If I can't write about something worthwhile, I'll write about them! Thank you for finding this!

Hey Candie! I saw this on Hubtivity, and popped in. My granddaughter can do that lip thing in the second picture. She's special, too! Her birthday is tomorrow. She wants cleaning stuff (i.e. broom, dust pan, mop, and two boxes of latex gloves)!

Good to see you! I still have to make a trip to Kingston for lunch or drinks, or lunch and drinks!

Oh! Tom it's been ages! She wants cleaning supplies? My niece always wanted office supplies! How great is that!?! I'm a July baby too, so give her a happy birthday from me!

This is on hubtivity? Hahaha! It's one of 3 original pieces I did, and now it's making the rounds over a year later?! Nice! Would love to go out for drinks and lunch some day! Thank you!!

You know Candie, you're specialness is unrivalled :) I can't beat the positives in you. For one I don't mind my food touching, so long as it doesn't looked dumped on the plate. I shop for cars with wild abandon, yet know what to look for - and what to avoid. I can almost match you on the laughing though.

Think Julia Roberts shrieking with laughter in Pretty Woman. I have a big mouth :)

Lovely hub, rated up. Up up! (and awesomed too)

Thank you FD! I dunno.. I think you've set the bar waaaay up there in 'specialness' yourself! (your dragon told me to say that!) Haha! Love J.R's laugh! Perfection! Can I borrow some of your 'wild abandon'??? Thank you!!

Love ya oodles!

One of my daughters freinds didn;t like her food to touch each other. We just got her a divided plate that she could use whenever she ate over. She's grown now and still doen't like her food to touch. I love your tips on how to keep the juice from touching another food. This is an entertaining hub. You are special.

Hey KoffeeKlatch Gals! Welcome! Ha! Wish I would have had a divided plate years ago.. would have saved my parent's sanity (and ultimately my own!) She and I are not rare at all.. thank you for sharing your story with me! Fantastic! PS.. you're special too!
